you can download AIM and make a screenname..after you make a screenname then the name you make also turns into an email address , but no you don't have to sign up for AOL just download AIM.

No, just go to www.aim.com and click on their downloads and get the one you want for free. Once you start to download it, they will ask if you want to download AOL mail or if you want to make a certain AOL page your home page. Just make sure you don't click those options and you'll be set.
